I WANTED TO ASK WHY WE'RE BUILDING A DATA CENTER THAT USES NATURAL GAS. WHEN GAS PRICES ARE SOARING AT AN ALL TIME HIGH, NOT EVEN SOLAR IS BEING CONSIDERED. AND THE LAST THING I WANTED TO TALK ABOUT IN REGARDS TO DATA CENTERS IS I WAS RAISED BEING TAUGHT BY CHRISTIAN PARENTS THAT THE INTERNET AND TELEVISION DEGRADES THE MINDS OF CHILDREN. I WANTED TO ASK WHY WE'RE BUILDING A DATA CENTER WHEN AI HAS BEEN CORRUPTING THE MINDS OF OUR CHILDREN AND WILL CORRUPT THE MINDS OF MY FUTURE CHILDREN, AND DEGRADING THE. AS A TEACHER, I AM SEEING THE EFFECTS OF AI ON OUR STUDENTS EVERY DAY, AND IT IS NOT A POSITIVE ONE. THE STUDENTS ARE DIRECTING THEIR CRITICAL. RATHER, THEY ARE SURRENDERING THEIR CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS TO THESE AI PROGRAMS THAT ARE COLLECTING THEIR DATA, PUTTING THEM UNDER SURVEILLANCE, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, MORE AND MORE STUDENTS ARE EXPRESSING THE ATTITUDE. I DON'T NEED TO THINK I CAN JUST HAVE THIS AI DO IT FOR ME, AND IT DOES NOT EVEN OCCUR TO THEM THAT AI IS PRONE TO HALLUCINATIONS. IT IS VERY SKETCHY WITH FACTS. IT'S VERY SKETCHY WITH ITS SOURCES AS WELL. AND SO I DON'T THINK WE SHOULD BE SUPPORTING A TECHNOLOGY THAT IS ANTI THINKING. AND I THINK BY BUILDING A DATA CENTER, WE WOULD BE CREATING A MORAL PERMISSIVENESS THAT I THINK WOULD BE DETRIMENTAL TO THEIR WELL-BEING. AND I'M ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT THE ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY OF IT. THE LARGEST AI COMPANIES, OPENAI, DO NOT GENERATE ANY PROFITS. IN FACT, TO MY KNOWLEDGE, IN THE LAST FISCAL YEAR, OPENAI OPERATED AT A I BELIEVE IT WAS A $24 BILLION REVENUE LOSS. AND IF THE LARGEST PLAYERS IN THE AI INDUSTRY CANNOT GENERATE A PROFIT, HOW CAN WE EXPECT SMALLER ONES TO. WITHIN THE LAST YEAR, I READ REPORTING THAT RESIDENTS IN WEST ODESSA SHOULDN'T EXPECT GOOD WATER INFRASTRUCTURE. FOR DECADES, THE MAN IN IT SAID IT MIGHT TAKE A LIFETIME. GIVEN THAT REALITY, I'M NOT CONVINCED THAT THIS PROJECT IS WORTH ANY POTENTIAL STRAIN ON RESOURCES IN OUR AREA. THE SECOND ISSUE THAT I HAVE IS THAT THE COMPANY HAS NOT SHOWN ENOUGH TRANSPARENCY, AND AGAIN, I KNOW THAT THEY'RE NOT WORKING WITHIN CITY LIMITS RIGHT NOW. WHEN I TRIED TO FIND ANY CLEAR, SPECIFIC INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR PLANS AND INTENTION, I FOUND VAGUE CODE NAMES, NOT ANY DETAILED COMMITMENTS OR MEASURABLE COMMUNITY IMPACT. IF THIS PROJECT IS TRULY BENEFICIAL AND RESPONSIBLY MANAGED, THE DETAILS SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLEAR TO THE PUBLIC FROM THE BEGINNING. IT SHOULDN'T TAKE ME GOOGLING LOOKING AT A BUNCH OF A MILLION POSTS, SEARCHING LIKE THE IMAGE OF A GUY TO FIND OUT WHAT COMPANY HE WORKS FOR. IN FACT, PEW RESEARCH JUST RECENTLY DID A POLLING WITHIN RURAL AREAS SUCH AS OURS AND ONES AROUND US, AND IT SHOWED THAT THERE WAS A 70% NEGATIVE DISCOURSE AROUND AI PROJECTS.
