COUNCILMEN AND GUESTS. MY NAME IS MAGGIE MARMOLEJO, AND I AM THE INTERIM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR ODESSA ARTS. WITH ME TODAY IS SARAH KATE SHAW. SHE IS OUR BOARD PRESIDENT. AND WE'RE HERE TO PRESENT OUR QUARTERLY REPORT TO YOU GUYS. EVERY MONTH, ODESSA BEGINS WITH AN ART CRAWL KNOWN AS FIRST FRIDAY. AND THIS ART CRAWL IS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DOWNTOWN ODESSA. THE PURPOSE OF THE ART CRAWL IS FOR RESIDENTS AND TOURISTS TO EXPLORE, CONNECT AND CELEBRATE THE ARTS. AND THE WAY THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED IS ODESSA ARTS REACHES OUT TO ARTISTS, MUSICIANS, ORGANIZATIONS, VENDORS AND ASK THEM TO PARTICIPATE AND BECOME MEMBERS OF OUR ART CRAWL. WE PLACE THEM WITH DIFFERENT COMPANIES OR ESTABLISHMENTS.

FOR EXAMPLE, WE MIGHT REACH OUT TO HOMEMADE WINES AND SAY, COULD YOU PLEASE SPONSOR AN ART GALLERY? THIS MONTH? HOW DO WE GET VENDORS TO PARTICIPATE WITH US? WELL, WITH OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH DOWNTOWN ODESSA AND SACRIFICIAL NEEDLE, THEY ALSO SEEK OUT VENDORS. NOT ONLY DOES ODESSA, BUT THESE PARTNERSHIP IS WHAT MAKES THIS PROGRAM SUCCESSFUL. SACRIFICIAL NEEDLE IS NOT DOWNTOWN. THEY'RE NORTH OF GRANT, BUT THEY ARE A PARTICIPANT. AND BECAUSE OF THAT, THAT'S WHY WE REFER TO IT AS FIRST FRIDAY DOWNTOWN AND BEYOND. WE USE EVENTBRITE TO HELP US DETERMINE HOW MANY INDIVIDUALS ATTENDED THE MOVIES IF THEY'RE LOCAL RESIDENTS, MEANING FROM MIDLAND, ODESSA, OR ARE THERE CULTURAL TOURISTS FROM SOMEWHERE OUTSIDE OF ODESSA? THE NEXT EVENT WAS OUR COMMUNITY PAINT DAY. THIS WAS A FAMILY FRIENDLY FREE EVENT LEADING UP TO THE COMMUNITY PAINT DAY. WE HAD WHAT WAS KNOWN AS ART DROPS. ART DROPS IS SORT OF KIND OF LIKE A SCAVENGER HUNT. WE PLACE PIECES OF ARTWORK IN BARENBACH ALL OVER ODESSA TO GIVE RESIDENTS OF ODESSA, AS WELL AS VISITORS TO ODESSA, TO BE ABLE TO SNAG A FREE PIECE OF ARTWORK. IF YOU LOOK AT THE PHOTOS, YOU'LL SEE THE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT WITH BARENBACH, AND THEY'RE ALSO CELEBRATING THE ARTS. THIS PARTNERSHIP, WE HAD 18 LOCAL VENDORS THAT INCLUDED ORGANIZATIONS. IT INCLUDED VENDORS. WE HAD FREE HAMBURGERS, HOT DOGS, SNOW CONES, AND WE ALSO DID ACTIVITIES FOR THE CHILDREN AS WELL AS FOR ADULTS.

YOU'LL NOTICE ON SOME OF THE PHOTOS, YOU'LL SEE THE OUR TOWN STAMP INITIATIVE THAT WE'RE WORKING ON RIGHT NOW. WE HAD EMPTY BOWS OUT THERE TO HELP THEM AND EXPLAIN WHAT THE PROGRAM WAS ABOUT, AND THEY ALSO CREATED POTTERY FOR THAT EVENT. WE WERE ASKED TO PARTICIPATE IN DIA DE LOS MUERTOS. ANA NAVARRO, WHO IS NOW OUR DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR, DID A PRESENTATION AT THAT EVENT, AND SHE DID IT IN BOTH ENGLISH AND SPANISH. THE NEXT EVENT AGAIN, WAS NOVEMBER 1ST FRIDAY. THE PHOTOS IS FROM CREATIVES OF WEST TEXAS. THAT IS A LOCAL AGENCY THAT HELPS OTHER ARTISTS TO PROMOTE THEIR WORK. THIS IS A DOWNTOWN VENDORS MARKET. IT SHOWS THE FIGURES HOW MANY PARTICIPANTS WE HAVE FOR FIRST FRIDAY. AGAIN, WE WERE ABLE TO USE THE EVENTBRITE TO GIVE US THE DETERMINATION. HOW MANY WERE LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND HOW MANY WERE CULTURAL? THE MOVIE CHOSEN IN NOVEMBER WAS TEN THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU. WE WERE TYING THAT IN WITH THE SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL. THAT WAS LATER IN THAT MONTH. TEN THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU IS BASED ON THE TAMING OF THE SHREW. THIS IS ALSO THE FIRST MONTH WE STARTED USING DIGITAL BILLBOARD ADVERTISING TO PROMOTE FIRST FRIDAY AND BEYOND. WE ALSO HAD AN OPENING OF A NEW GALLERY AT THE MUNICIPAL PLAZA GALLERY.

THESE ARE PHOTOS OF SOME OF THE ARTISTS THAT ARE PROUDLY STANDING BY THEIR ARTWORK. AND THE SECOND SCREEN IS ALSO SOME ADDITIONAL ARTWORK. IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO THE COMMUNITY PLAZA TO LOOK AT THE DISPLAYED WORK, I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO SO. WE ALSO RECEIVED AN AWARD AND WE WERE HONORED BY ODESSA COLLEGE, AND THAT'S A PHOTO OF OUR BOARD PRESIDENT ACCEPTING THE AWARD ON OUR BEHALF. THE BIGGEST EVENT WE HAD WAS SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL IN NOVEMBER. I WANTED TO PROVIDE THE STATISTICS OF OUR PUBLIC PERFORMANCES AND TO PROVIDE ALSO THE AMOUNT OF THE LOCAL ATTENDEES VERSUS CULTURAL ATTENDANCE. HOWEVER, THE PRIDE OF THIS WAS THE ACTUAL SCHOOL PERFORMANCE, AND I WANTED TO SHOW SOME PHOTOS OF SHAKESPEARE'S GREATEST HITS THIS YEAR. THEY DID SNIPPETS OF ROMEO AND JULIET, MACBETH, TAMING OF THE SHREW, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, AND A MIDSUMMER'S NIGHT DREAM. THEY ALSO DID JULIUS CAESAR. THE SCHOOL SHOWS WERE FROM MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, AND WE ACTUALLY ADDED AN ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE ON MONDAY TO ACCOMMODATE THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB. AND I JUST WANTED TO SHOW YOU SOME PHOTOS OF THE CHILDREN THAT WERE ATTENDING. THIS YEAR WAS REALLY

SUCCESSFUL. WHAT I'VE LEARNED BECAUSE I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL IS THAT I NEED TO DO SAVE THE DATE AS SOON AS SCHOOL STARTS, BECAUSE UNFORTUNATELY, FINE ARTS FALLS WAY BELOW ON THE PECKING ORDER FOR RESERVING BUSSES. AND SO I SENT OUT THE NOTICE. WE GOT MORE SCHOOL PARTICIPATIONS THIS YEAR THAN WE DID LAST YEAR. WE HAD 34 PUBLIC, PRIVATE AND HOME SCHOOLS ATTEND SHAKESPEARE IN A WEEK. FIRST TIME ATTENDEES DOES A BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB THANKS TO NIKKI WYNDHAM AND FROST BANK, WE WERE ABLE TO HAVE STUDENTS FROM EVERY BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB HERE IN ODESSA ATTEND A SPECIAL PERFORMANCE OF SHAKESPEARE'S GREATEST HITS. WE HAD OVER 90 STUDENTS ATTEND THAT EVENT. I ALSO WANTED TO SHOW YOU HOW FAR SOME OF THESE STUDENTS TRAVELED.

ONE WAY TO ATTEND THIS PROGRAM, AND A LOT OF THESE SCHOOLS ATTENDED BOTH THE MORNING AND THE AFTERNOON SESSIONS. AND SO THEY REACHED OUT AND ASKED US, WHERE CAN WE GO EAT REALLY QUICKLY SO WE CAN BE BACK IN TIME FOR THE NEXT PERFORMANCE? THE PERFORMERS STATED THAT THEY WERE HERE FOR A WEEK. THIS EVENT GENERATED APPROXIMATELY $32,903 IN ECONOMIC IMPACT FROM THEIR ONE WEEK RESIDENCY IN ODESSA. PART OF THE AGREEMENT IS THAT THERE ARE TO PERFORM SOME WORKSHOPS. SO THIS IS SOME PHOTOS OF THE THEATER CLASS THAT WAS PARTICIPATING WITH THE AUTHORS. EXCUSE ME, WITH THE PERFORMERS. IF YOU LOOK AT THE THE PICTURE WITH THE CHILDREN HOLDING THE LITTLE SNOWMAN MADE OUT OF BALLOONS, THAT WAS A FREE WORKSHOP AT ODESSA ARTS OFFERED TO THE STUDENTS TO CREATE THEIR OWN SNOWMAN MADE OUT OF BALLOONS. AND THESE CHILDREN CAME BACK AND PROUDLY SHOWED US THEIR ARTWORK. AT THE END. I DID SPEAK TO THE PARENTS. THE PARENTS WERE MORE NERVOUS THAN THE KIDS BECAUSE THEY WERE AFRAID THE BALLOONS WERE GOING TO POP, BUT THE KIDS WERE FEARLESS AND THEY WERE TWISTING THEM AND CREATING THEIR CREATIONS. AGAIN. WE PROVIDED THE STATISTICS OF THE HOW MANY VENDORS PARTICIPATED, AND THEN THERE'S ALSO PHOTOS OF INDIVIDUALS WHO PARTICIPATED IN OUR TOWN, THE INITIATIVE THAT WE'RE GETTING READY TO CELEBRATE ODESSA'S 100TH BIRTHDAY. AND THEY DISTRIBUTE IT TO BOTH THE MIDLAND AND ODESSA OFFICES. NEXT, I JUST WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THE WORK OF ALL OF OUR GRANTEES DURING THE THE FOURTH QUARTER, AND I'M NOT GOING TO GO OVER THE STATISTICS, BUT THEY DID PROVIDE INFORMATION REGARDING THE ATTENDANCE, THE HOTEL IMPACT THAT THEY HAVE, AND SOME OF THE PHOTOS OF THE EVENTS THAT THEY HELD. ELLEN NOEL MUSEUM WAS VERY, VERY BUSY WITH A LOT OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. AND WITH THE GRAND OPENING OF THE NEW MUSEUM, THE NUTCRACKER PARTICIPATED WITH US. IN FIRST FRIDAY. THEY PARTNER UP WITH THE MARRIOTT AND THEN THEY HAD THE IT WAS A NUTCRACKER THEME AT THE MARRIOTT FOR FIRST FRIDAY. AND THESE ARE SOME OF THE BEAUTIFUL BALLERINAS WITH THE MIDLAND FESTIVAL BALLET. NEXT IS THE WEST TEXAS JAZZ.

THEY PLAYED A LOT OF MUSIC AT THE MARRIOTT, AND THEY ALSO HAD A WHOLE BUNCH OF ACTIVITIES, AND THEY ALSO PROVIDED THEIR THEIR TOURISM FIGURES FOR US. ODESSA COLLEGE HAD SOME EVENTS.

THEY ALSO PROVIDED THE STATISTICS AS HOW THE IMPACT OF THE HOTEL, AS WELL AS HOW MANY INDIVIDUALS ATTENDED THE EVENTS. I DO WANT TO POINT OUT THAT ON JANUARY 22ND, THE ECTOR COUNTY LIBRARY FOUNDATION DID REACH OUT TO ME PRIOR TO OUR SITE VISIT THAT THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE TO WITHDRAW THEIR GRANT BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT MATCH THE GRANT FUNDS THAT THEY RECEIVED.
